Suggest a good beginners book for Linux/Ubuntu.

I have a couple .pdf's downloaded and I can go on the Interweb to look stuff up but still, there's nothing like a good book to sit and read to learn stuff by. I loved the "Mac for Dummies" and "Mac OS X for Dummies" books that I had for my iMac because they'd explain it in a way that even I could understand,LOL. So, would the "Linux for Dummies" book be decent to learn some Terminal stuff with and other general Linux stuff do they have an "Ubuntu for Dummies" out that'd be even better? Thanks.

I don't know any good. I would like to have one myself too. I think that Linux is lacking user-friendliness on this matter that the default install don't offer some help center (other than man pages).

I would just rely on Google and other Ubuntu forums to find all thing Ubuntu, it hasn't let me down so far, and i think roughing it makes for a better experience anyway, can't tell you how many times I've had to re install Ubuntu cause i typed something wrong or just royally messed something up, but its all good fun

    Also buy books, pfffft

I own quite a few of the "<Subject> For Dummies" books, most of them are very helpful. Not having the most recent version of "Linux for Dummies" I can't say whether it would be useful or not, particularly if you're using the Unity DE. There is no "Ubuntu for Dummies" that I'm aware of.

Take a look at Ubuntu Unleashed, written by forum member matthew.

I pretty much rely solely on these forums and Google. There are a few books out there, but sadly I haven't read any.

I think you shouldn't concentrate on ubuntu and learn lunux in general. I'm not sure if it helps you, but I find Linux pocket guide very helpful.

I'm going to probably place an order to Tiger Direct for a Hard Drive Enclosure and a couple laptop bags so I'll see what they've got in the way of the Pocket Guide or anything else Linux that may be of some help. Thanks for all the help.
