Dare I? Bites nails. I have just booted, updated - given a snapshot. I have yet to reboot. Dare I? Are you a man or a mouse? I am a tester! Here goes.
Oh, oh! Not good. Requires power off to shut down. Still get Grub menu and sparse file error (which I thought I had fixed) and it reboots into black screen + flashing cursor. Recovery>Resume gets to a desktop. But I am starting to see the usefulness of btrfs snapshots. I might try rolling back to before today's update, just because I can. This problem is nothing to do with btrfs but everything to do with new kernel + video driver, in my opinion.
Regards.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

I was getting that also .. (I had to go to terminal and sudo service lightdm start), but that appears to be fixed now . I too am still getting the sparse file error - but no big deal.
