    Yes, when you use saucy with gdm, you need to enable Gnome3 PPA (raring branch) and you can very well enable Gnome3 Staging PPA (raring branch) as well. These do work well ATM.
    Then, if you need to do more testing and if you need to be in trouble more frequently , enable the saucy-proposed too.
    This is where you get the dependency issues every now and then, with the PPA's I mentioned.

    I do all this. But I do not use the Gnome Testing PPA.

    Not using saucy-proposed, I've trained myself to wait at least for that repository... I see it as a sandbox as it is supposed to be treated...
    When are we to expect a proper Saucy branch for these two PPAs...?

    Hopes to see them with the coming gnome 3.10 (aka 3.9.x as found inside testing)

    I hacked the json file, on the ones I *need*. They seem to be working fine...

    How do you hack the json file? How to do that?

    The only extension I'd like to have (HideTopBar) does not work with just changing .json... ;(

    Each extension has, in its folder (in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions) a metadata.json file. In that file, you will see the versions of Gnome Shell for which that extension is supposedly designed. Sometimes (not always), if you just add the version number of the newer version to the list, it will work just fine. Sometimes it still won't work, if there's something coded into that extension that actually requires some feature that has changed or is handled differently now.

    When editing metadata.json, be sure to put the desired version number in "", and put a comma in between entries (but not after the last entry). After editing, do a reset of gnome-shell (Alt-F2, r), and then bring up the tweak tool and look under extensions - you'll see if your extension has been enabled.

    I've been lucky - all the extensions I consider must-have work using this technique. If your desired extension still doesn't work, go to the extensions website, click on 'installed extensions', and sometimes you'll see there's an update that will get it going...

    Yeppers!

    Actually, you only *need* the version you're running.

    EXAMPLE: Icon Hider

    Code:
    {
      "_generated": "Generated by SweetTooth, do not edit, unless you want to",
      "description": "Show/Hide icons from top panel",
      "gettext-domain": "org.gnome.shell.extensions.icon-hider",
      "name": "Icon Hider",
      "settings-schema": "org.gnome.shell.extensions.icon-hider",
      "shell-version": ["3.9.1"],
      "url": "https://github.com/ikalnitsky/gnome-shell-extension-icon-hider",
      "uuid": "icon-hider@kalnitsky.org",
      "version": 8
    }

    Re: Is Gnome-shell faster or only I feel like that?

    w00t! New version. Released 2 days ago.

    Thanks, for reminding me to check!

    New json hack...

    Code:
    {
        "shell-version": ["3.9.1"],
        "uuid": "icon-hider@kalnitsky.org",
        "name": "Icon Hider",
        "description": "Show/Hide icons from top panel",
        "url": "https://github.com/ikalnitsky/gnome-shell-extension-icon-hider",
        "settings-schema": "org.gnome.shell.extensions.icon-hider",
        "gettext-domain": "org.gnome.shell.extensions.icon-hider",
        "version": "9"
    }

    Anyway, that's all there is to it...
