Add volume control back to top applicaton bar - 12.10

Well, I'm not even sure what the heck I did that it disappeared, but the volume control icon is gone from the top bar on my desktop. I suppose it happened when I deleted pulseaudio then added it back in [I was following bad advice on an internet thread for Skype sound problems].

I *thought* all I needed to do was right-click on the top bar and go through adding it there. However, when I click with either the right or left buttons on empty space in the top bar, nothing happens.

I would like to know what the heck I did to mess this up, but even more I'd like to know how to put the volume control back.

Cool Re: Add volume control back to top applicaton bar - 12.10

For those not wishing to use the indicator panel, nor pulseaudio, try this:
    http://code.google.com/p/volti/
It's in the repositories for Oneric and Precise.
Install with Synaptic package manager the way I did, or whichever one you prefer.
Can't stand the "easy way" of Software Center, found long ago that's very slow.
    Take care.
