system freezes and have no way to get around the problem except manually restarting
ubuntu 12.4 once in a while my system freezes and have no way to get around the problem except manually restarting
may be its unity problem? does alt+ctrl+f1(234) works? alt+ctrl+t?
output of dmesg, syslog?
need more information
You can try rebooting using alt+SysRq+REISUB. This is less likely to result in file system corruption.
Is that this netbook? The specs seem just good enough. What version and flavour of Ubuntu are you running? Is there anything suspicious in the logs? Can you find anything that may be related to the cause of those crashes, a program you run, plugging in or removing something etc? It will be hard to find the error otherwise.
