    Elementary OS

Hey I was wondering if I could install elementary os (elementaryos.org) in ubuntu 13.04? I LOVE the clean appearance better than anything else I've seen for linux. If you go to the website it's just an iso you can download, and I want to keep ubuntu

Do you think it's a good idea to install the 2 operating system's side-by-side? What is better about ubuntu? Is elementary os faster? Is it as user-friendly for a linux beginner?

Installing two operating systems is perfectly fine depending of your hardware resources . There are many Linux operating systems developed to meet specific user needs. http://distrowatch.com/

I have tested the pantheon (elementary) desktop on 12.10 ,but it did work as I wanted and I removed it. These PPA's are of course , use at your own risk.

From the screen shot it looks like gnome3 with a dock at the bottom. What am I missing?

Please use thumbnails or url's for your images, large images make it very difficult for people with slow connections.
    Thanks

    Re: Elementary OS

The top bar is a complete rewrite of their own called Wingpanel. It only looks similar to what Gnome 3 has as it's top bar but it isn't the same thing. The Applications button on the upper left opens another of their own rewrites called Slingshot. It brings up a menu that is both touch-useable as well as working well for a mouse with an instant search option for keyboard based launching of apps. I added an image to the bottom to show it to you. If you wanna see more click here.

The desktop is very useable and overall I love the look, my biggest gripe with it is that it is based on Ubuntu 12.04, which makes getting and installing some things hard or impossible. If it was based on 13.04 I would use it in a heartbeat.

    Re: Elementary OS

I have dual booted ElementaryOS with Ubuntu 13.04 for over a month, there had been no problem.... Didn't want to triple boot hence replaced it with Ubuntu Studio.

I really like Elementary OS for its speed and clean looks....
Nowadays they have a Slim panel option that i found out & liked... Elementary OS is really nice and its, easy to use, fast, customizable to a certain point & also looks gr8, i would say give it a try...

    Re: Elementary OS

Why is this in General Help and not in Other OS/Distro?
