Testing for flavours

Everyone in here is well aware of the awesome job that get's done with little reward - other than the next version

Ubuntu get's a lot of testing - other flavours perhaps less so.

They'd love to see more of the action here.

Xubuntu, Lubuntu could do with a bit of tlc from the forum's formidable testers.

More details on the other flavours will follow, but Xubuntu will be running at the least 1 alpha and the beta's during the developement phase, the Release Schedule will be changing following a session at UDS, once that's finalised more specific testing needs will be made available.

The tests and iso's are all there on the qa tracker as I'm sure you are aware.

(Edit - there's always something that even when you've looked at a text doc before you post thread that you forget - I didn't mean this to sound as though no-one in here does look at flavours - I have seen the odd Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu issue. )

Is xubuntu in the daily-live yet or do I have to use raring and upgrade to saucy from there? Hmmmm.... I can use my precise.iso and upgrade from there.

Looks like the dailys also make it to (some of) the mirrors. That's important for those of us who are "download constrained". If you're an Aussie with Bigpond/Telstra then AARNET is unmetered... Xubuntu daily CD image is available here.

There are many tests that lack participation, particularly the upgrade tests.

This is obvious when you look at the archived test results ...... such as:

The QA Tracker is pretty darn good and all of the flavors need more testers, I've been doing it since Hardy and it really becomes addictive

I'll install Lubuntu (again) if it helps.

I really, really, liked Lubuntu, a year or two ago, but moved to regular ol' LXDE/Openbox because Lubuntu started taking forever to load via a USB stick, and the situation was getting worse with each upgrade.

I' m using Peppermint OS (a Lubuntu fork) on USB thumb drives now, and don't see myself going back any time soon, but...

I cannot think of any good reason(s) not to switch back to Lubuntu on my desktop box.

Might be fun, especially if there's lots of breakage. LoL!

OMG!!! I forgot how sad LXDE looks without a compositor. That was tweak #1.

Looking okay now. Speedy and light on resources, Lubuntu is!

Hello Elfy, the only reason why I test only Ubuntu is that I have 1 PC with UEFI Firmware, and another with a Brand New 120 Giga Byte Crucial M500 SSD. Just FYI.

Just to clarify, are we talking here about doing ISO testing, or about using a "flavour" on a day-to-day basis?

My systems are a bit unusual, being built up from command-line systems with only the packages that I want. Is running that sort of thing helpful? Or does one end up with quirks and oddities that wouldn't happen on a full installation?

I'd not presume to ask anyone to run a flavour

It's just about testing ISO's mostly - though personally I run the 'newest' xubuntu, with an old one for those 'oh my word' days and test iso's.
