I would go with Firefox as default browser.
If user-base preference dictates Chromium over Firefox then okay, fair do's. If it's a dev decision based on 'their' preference, or 'their' convenience then there may be implications with the existing/remaining FF devotees/faithful.

Greetings, For me it will be Firefox. If I want something trimmer I use Midori. I'm very pleased with these two programs.

I personally use Chromium. But Firefox should stay default, because my experience tells me that it's more familiar to new users.
