Raring 13.04 after upgrade can't change colors on desktop

I upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04. I kept my old /home settings. When I go to change from a desktop background image to a color or gradient all I get is BLACK. I can select a different color and it shows the change but the main preview and the actual desktop are black.

When I'm logged on as guest I can change colors without a problem; so I assume there's a profile setting that's preventing me from changing it. This also effect Unity Tweak Tool because I can't change the launcher background either.

Edit: I set up a new account and after logging in I found I could change the background color OK...but only once. The next time I tried, I got a black screen no matter what the color I picked. So, it may not be profile dependent. OK, there's this bug: Bug #1173818 and it is exactly like my problem.

    Thanks for the help!

Anybody? I am experiancing this as well. Only color I can see is black no matter what color I chose as a desktop color, or what theme I pick.

Thanks for writing cybodog! I checked launchpad bugs and #1173818 is still unassigned. I think there are a few other similar bugs listed on launchpad as well. For now I guess we have to put up with it.
