I am not sure why I am getting this message.

    Code:
    root@long-Lenovo:/home/long/Desktop/hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_112# modprobe -rfv wl
    FATAL: Module wl not found.

Hi, you are getting that error..because the module isnt there any longer..
you will get the error on these 2 lines...
    Code:
    modprobe -rfv wl
    sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
do both anyway..ignore the error...and continue on...all is well

Yup, he's absolutely correct. Thanks Hadaka!

Plus - I messed up the blacklist command earlier (the echo "brcmsmac" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf command). I have corrected that in the original post, it will be -
    Code:
echo "blacklist brcmsmac" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
To check if you already used the wrong command (although it won't hurt), please post -
    Code:
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

After this "update-initramfs -u" I get the following string about 50 times
    Code:
libkmod: ERROR ../libkmod/libkmod-config.c:686 kmod_config_parse: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf line 56: ignoring bad line starting with 'brcmsmac'
I have gone through the fix 3-4 times and it happened the last two times

Evidently, I responded 1 minute late . Please read my previous post.

Although this error doesn't hurt, let's fix it. The easiest way -
    Code:
    sudo sed -i '/^brcmsmac/ d' /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
It doesn't matter whether you run this command before or after running the corrected one, it will just delete the incorrect line, thus fixing those error messages.

EDIT: Whew..!! Looks like we're in a race of responding to each-other.... You Win!!

    I ran this command

    Code:
    sudo sed -i '/^brcmsmac/ d' /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
then started back at step 6. I still got this when I input this command

    Code:
    root@long-Lenovo:/home/long/Desktop/hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_112# modprobe -v wl
libkmod: ERROR ../libkmod/libkmod-config.c:686 kmod_config_parse: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf line 56: ignoring bad line starting with 'brcmsmac'

Re: Wifi won't connect on 13.04 with BCM 4313

Hmm.. shouldn't happen. Let's take another look at the blacklist.conf file. Please post -
    Code:
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf | tail -4
The "tail" part is to just show the last 4 lines, as that's what we are interested in.

And you don't need to build the module everytime. Once it is built for the current kernel, just proceed with step 8.

responding from my phone, as wifi is now absent. I can get on with Ethernet if needed.
