HOW TO clean install 12.04 32bit over 64bit

After a lot of trial and error I was able to install Ubuntu onto my macbook (mid 2007)- the solution came by making a boot disk with the 64 bit version of 12.04 in unetbootin. Once installed- I instantly noticed how slow it worked, and now after reading- sounds like going to the 32 bit version might be better for me?

I figured that since it wasnt going to be a matter of Mac OS not wanting to read the boot disk, I would be able to easily install any other version of ubuntu onto my machine with a new disk image. The problem is- not matter where I make the boot disk (through Ubuntu's startup disk creator, unetbootin, or disk utility on my other mac) it is not being recognized on startup- only if i put the 64 bit usb in does it read and offer me the option of clean installing the OS.

This happened to be on a Mac.

32-bit vs. 64-bit Ubuntu 13.04 Linux Performance with only 1GB of RAM & most tests better with 64bit

Thanks for that. Pretty interesting. I'm actually running the same intel core 2 duo as in the test.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to improve my performance??

I have always considered 1GB too small for full Ubuntu as Unity needs RAM and a good video card or chip.

Have you tried Lubuntu or Xubuntu?

Oh OK, makes sense. Just loaded Lubuntu on and it runs much smoother. I'll mess around with this a bit more- might be the perfect fit since I pretty much wanted this macbook for internet and word processing anyways.

    Thanks for the help!
