    Thumbs up Re: Name change

There are way too many Posts here about 13.04, even after General Release. I say Close and Archice this Sub-Forum. Just my 2 Cents. By the way, just got my IPhone 5 Personal Hotspot working again today as I just entered a new Billing Cycle with Sprint, and I am very Impressed with the Final Version of 13.04! It's a shame that I was NOT able to help you guys test during the final weeks of 13.04 Final Beta to Release due to my 6 GB Personal Hotspot Data Cap, but I just wanted to let you guys know you did a heck of a job with out me, 0 Crashes so far, and I am running 13.04 on all 3 of my Dell Computers! Just FYI!

    Re: Name change

As soon as the Saucy toolchain is uploaded, any threads asking about Raring. will be moved to General Help, as it looks like there will be no version name in the sub-forum title, just U+1. Our average user has no idea what U+1 is, so the number of extra threads should be fairly low.

Then if the Decision has already been made, shouldn't you just plain Remove this Poll, or was the whole idea about the Poll just to test the New Forum's Voting Software with a Trial Run?

I'm just going by the current results in the poll, it looks like about 60-40 for change.

    hi @all,

i vote for close and start new.
    reason.
if you keep this thread going on like it is you will sometime have e.g. 15.04 issues in this thread mixed with 13.04 and versions between. this is a mess.

    best regards

I really don't see why this would create a huge mess. Just one example - I read this on the Lubuntu QA mailing list yesterday:

    https://lists.launchpad.net/lubuntu-qa/msg02271.html

    The relevant part:

That's just one small example of how it's impossible for we that test and plan to focus only on the very next version.

Another example is the implementation (or lack thereof) of gnome 3.8 during Raring, many of us want and/or need to look further ahead - particularly if we maintain large numbers of PC's

Yet a third example, this time where it's sometimes necessary to discuss a stable release in U+1, is when I started to look at gnome 3's fallback session:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1870612

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1873765

While we were already in Precise development it was impossible to begin without trying things in a stable Oneiric base.

So there are issues where discussion of older stable and/or distant upcoming releases is inevitable. But that's why we have moderators

    Not so.

People trying to post to threads created today in 2015 are going to find that either

a - we get reports of it and close it
b - the autoclose plugin works ok and they can't post in it anyway

If you are actually talking about this thread - then once we've made a decision and applied it then it'll be closed anyway.

    Sounds sensible

BTW I probably owe you a personal apology, if you don't know why ignore this, otherwise please accept my apology for being a stupid jerk

    Re: Name change

One more reason, and possibly the best reason, we should just be U+1 is displayed here:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2138987

We who truly test a lot know what to do and when to do it. And we know when to ignore bad advice

As long as a release name is attached to U+1 we increase the danger of noobs diving into something they don't understand
