How to open .ova file in Virtualbox 4.2.12 (ubuntu)

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit OS. One of my colleague has provided me with a .ova file to use it in virtualbox. I am trying to add it in storage options of a instance, But am unable to add it, i am getting a error -

Failed to open the hard disk /home/anand/softwares/Openbravo [openbravo_x86_64].ova.
Could not get the storage format of the medium '/home/anand/softwares/Openbravo [openbravo_x86_64].ova' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Isn't that a complete virtual machine? Try importing it by choosing File > Import Appliance from the main menu of the VirtualBox app.
