There are 2 ways to get 8 2x4 4x2 If you are using one of the top 3 & getting 8 that would be interesting though unlikely In ccsm H=4 & V=1 and in unity tweak tool H=4 & V=1 which produces 8 (octogon) virtual desktops but when I set H=1 in unity tweak tool it also sets it to 1 in ccsm. Reason being is I was using key bindings alt+1, alt+2 etc. to switch between work spaces and it produced 1&3 and 2&4 being the same work spaces.
