Turn on Auto hide for upper menu bar in Unity?!

The bar that has your username and the clock. Can it be set to auto hide like the program bar? I run wine windows in simulated desktop mode to get fullscreen and not have things like crashes from alt tabbing so I can browse the web etc also. But if I have them at full res the bar knocks off the bottom and important stuff is down there. Any way to set this so I can get the full monitor depth? Shrinking the wine windows is not an option. Auto hide would be preferable. I like looking at the clock and stuff but could use it out of the way when working with stuff sometimes. Auto hide would do wonders.

There is currently no way to autohide the top panel and I don't know of any plans to make that happen. I know the suject has come up before.
