12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

I know this is a reported problem but I can't find a solution to my problem. My wireless connection disconnects at random times. I have to restart NetWork Manager to get it to work again. Another user at the UEOz forums is also having this issue. For my specific situation I am using an HP dv6t-7000 CTO. Core i5 2450M, 6Gb ram, GT 630M

I found a solution on the forums, so I tried it.
    Code:
     sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci
    Code:
    sudo modprobe rt2800pci 11n_disable=1
    But I got an error:
FATAL: Error inserting rt2800pci (/lib/modules/3.8.2-ck1/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2800pci.ko): Invalid argument
    What should I do?

    Hi the command is..
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci
    sudo modprobe rt2800pci nohwcrypt=1
    hope that helps.

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

Well, that works. The the post I found that other information was from January, I guess that command was for that driver only?

I will see if that fixes my issue in the long run... A few days testing should suffice.

Also, could you explain what that command does specifically? I don't really understand from what I read on the other post.

    Thank You!!!

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

Hi, glad that helped, hope it holds.

    sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci <-> removes module rt2800pci
sudo modprobe rt2800pci nohwcrypt=1 <-> inserts module rt2800pci with "no hardware encryption"

    [nohwcrypt=1/off nohwcrypt=0/on] or [nohwcrypt= y/n] as it is bool.

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

Thanks for the explanation. I am afraid it did not work. I added that to /lib/modules/3.8.2-ck1/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2800pci.ko and it did not fix the random disconnect issue. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

Hi, if you have an N speed router as in b/g/n
you may try to disable the N part and while
your in the router maybe select a different channel
and if you are running mixed wpa/wpa2 try to
    select wpa2 only.

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

I will try that. But that cannot explain how I have that issue on other routers.

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

Okay, I just checked my existing wireless settings. I am on channel 3 (I checked the phone, and other routers in the area for conflicts. There should not be any. ) only accepting WPA2 and either b or g strength. My router does not support N. So that is not the issue.

also is /lib/modules/3.8.2-ck1/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2800pci.ko the correct place to put options rt2800pci nohwcrypt=1

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

I was looking through the logs. In the network-interface-security-network-interface_wlan0.log I found this

Warning: unable to find a suitable fs in /proc/mounts, is it mounted?
    Use --subdomainfs to override.

    and in network-interface-wlan0.log I found

    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured
    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured
    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured
    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured
    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured
    ifdown: interface wlan0 not configured

    What do you think?

Re: 12.04 wireless random disconnects rt2800pci driver

I removed all networking upstart services. Doing that did not help, but my startup is faster. Anyone else have any ideas?
