We have Unity-ubuntu, XFCE-ubuntu, LXDE-ubuntu and KDE-ubuntu.

What we are really asking for is an official Gubuntu 12.04 LTS - GNOME-ubuntu
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Canonical

We really are grateful for the hard work and effort you have put in over the years to forge a desktop Os we can all have access to and be productive with, as well as enjoy. However, we as business owners, superusers and home users everywhere are losing hope in the current trend of "tablet mania" that has taken ubuntu and windows to new heights for the sake of a touch screen and the online store.

The problem we face is as such. In our businesses and roles as superusers we would never ever recommend any client to install ubuntu unity or for that matter windows 8 for the sake that it detracts from productivity and gives employees access to gimmicks that rob the productivity of ligitimate office time. The problem with this is that Canonical seems to sending the message that they want out of the business market and rather want home users as their sole market. However homeusers never pay for anything, they mostly want everything for free, so the revenue is not as good as one may hope despite the move toward the "online store".

As many users testify on the web it is an utter nightmare deconfiguring a flashy desktop to something more stable and familiar. We may be able to make it more familiar by using other desktops environments, but the problem is we lose that much needed stability.

This will be an everlasting conflict between us the superusers/business owners who want a productive and stable Os, who make the software recommendations and provide technical support to new clients and you the Os developers ever trying to break new markets. It is easier designing a stable desktop that has a fancy overlay that can be switched off than designing a fancy desktop which has to be heavily tweaked to get a stable desktop.

Some things we are seriously asking for:

Give us an official Canonical Gubuntu release based on Ubuntu 12.04:

  1. We really only want LTS releases for Gubuntu.
  2. Give us a stable gnome desktop as the default option.
  3. Give us synaptic as default.
  4. Give us the standard navigation buttons in nautilus as default.
  5. Give us the traditional gconf-editor and gnome-tweak tools as default.
  6. Give us a skinnable gdm that can use stock themes.
  7. Give us a robust desktop environment that we can provide to business owners without having to charge them for configuring out the bloatware.
  8. Give us the screensavers by default.
  9. Give us the ability to brand Ubuntu from boot to login so that we can provide this branding functionality to our clients who want a stable and solid Os with their own corporate logo, look and feel from startup, to boot, to login screen, to desktop.
  10. Give us an Os that is devoid of Avahi, Zietgeist and geoclue by default. (Our security needs are of paramount importance)
  11. Give us an Os that has superb backward compatibility, 32bit support, wine support and java support out of the box to support all our old software. (So we can help our clients migrate to Gubuntu easily).
  12. Give us a sleek fast boot time without unnecessary programs and services that detract from office productivity. (Ubuntu One, Gwibber, Shotwell, etc)
  13. Give us an Os that makes the superuser community proud to support Gubuntu.

Why are we asking Canonical for this?

Because we believe in Ubuntu as a peoples Os, but we also believe that Gubuntu has the potential to be the perfect solution for superusers and business owners.
