    Laptop sound problems.

Wonder if anyone can help - I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop. On first time and two other runs (hard restart) the sound worked just fine - now for whatever reason the drivers are missing or the drivers can't find the sound board. In sound settings the hardware tab is blank so the OS thinks there is no sound on the machine and the input device tab is blank the output tab offers a dummy output device (stereo). It's not the laptop as I am dual booting with XP and the sound is fine on that OS. Had to go with 11.10 because 12.04 is not happy with the screen (no display) Have restarted warm and cold boot several time to no avail. Many thanks for any advice.
