    Cannot Run Update Manager

I am running Ubuntu 12.0.4 and can no longer run my update manager. This is the error I receive:

    The package system is broken

Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems.
Furthermore run the following command in a Terminal: apt-get install -f

How do I get this fixed?

    thanks

    Re: Cannot Run Update Manager

Did you try the suggested command (sudo apt-get install -f)? Post the output of that command.

What error message to you get after you run the
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install -f
command as above. The error message or messages should give an indication of what the problem is.

I am having the same problem, but this time when I type in sudo apt-get install -f the problem is not resolved.

    Rather I get this code:

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Also the update manager gives me this message:

The system seems to be trying to tell you to not install two different versions of the same package.
    It's right. Don't do that.

Run the command 'apt-cache policy' and post the entire result here.

Run this but do not hit the Y key blindly. Post back what it says it's going to do. And use the code wrap on the results. Highlight the output in your reply and click the # code tags button

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
