Home server on HP Mini (Atom, 1 GB Ram)

I promise I will never drink and code again if you can help mw

All I want is a simple hime server on my HP Mini.
210-1100
Intel Atom 1.66Hz
memory 1024 MB

I successfully downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop but after amp etc.. i though i should switch to Lubuntu to save space... now I am lost

can i just delete it all and start over from a usb?? or the command line?

both you can change ubuntu to Lubuntu or even smaller Xubuntu but since a full install is easy that may be better for a new user
also you might check distro watch there are several prebuilt server distro that are really easy. NAS for free or SMS or zentyal
or test them all. Do the disto hop and try several till you find the one that suits you!!

Lubuntu is significantly lighter than Xubuntu and the best chioce for an HP Mini.

Friends. I would love to delete and star over. I have downloaded Ubuntu desktop iso lubuntu same... Did the dd command... I just keep coming back to a black screen command line that alllows me to log in. I tried to change the file names on my USB but my Mac won't mount the iso. What's next? (and no fb is no the answer)
