    Ubuntu Upgrades

Hello everyone and first let me say I am new to this OS because I went to a friends house he uses this and showed me cool things and I said WOW this is a nice OS and its free. But to the point I downloaded the latest 12.10 version and tried to install it and it had problems like loggin me out everytime I selected some apps (i.e Thunderbird). So I called friend and told him and he advised me to download an older version which im using 11.10. I was wondering if I let it upgrade through the update software will those issues be resoved or is it just something the community is aware of and working on a fix. Or is it something with my Hardware? Thanks in advance

    PC specs: Ubuntu 11.10, Asus G75vw, i7 3630qm 2.4Ghz, 120ssd + 1TB HD, 8GB RAM, GTX660M

Download and install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which is supported until 2017. It is quite stable and I would recommend to a newb, like you. Older version of Ubuntu are not recommended unless there is a special need to do so. And DO NOT UPGRADE. Do a Clean Install.

Does this system have Optimus dual video? That often can be an issue as nVidia does not yet support it. But many have success with bumblebee.
