Why don't you confirm the device name of the new disk when it is plugged in?
sudo parted -l
Although, mdadm should work by UUID so even if one of the raid5 members changes the name, it should still assemble fine. Unless the ARRAY definition in mdadm.conf is by name, not by UUID. You can check the ARRAY definition and after that check all UUIDs with:
sudo blkid
