"General error mounting filesystems" booting off DVD

I've finally decided to give Linux a good look and figured Ubuntu was a good place to start since it has the ability to boot and run entirely off of a DVD. So I downloaded the latest 64-bit version, burned the .iso to a DVD and rebooted my computer. Ubuntu started booting up, it asked me if I wanted to install the OS or just run it off of the DVD, I chose running it just off the DVD. It loaded for a couple seconds and then gave me the "General error mounting filesystems" error message. Below is my current computer setup:

    Core i7 2600 3.4ghz
    Windows 8
    8gb RAM
    GTX 670
    256gb SSD
    1TB HHD
    Phillips Lite-On DVD+-RW 16x/48x

Can anyone offer advice? I'm a complete newb when it comes to Linux, but fairly adept when it comes to Windows and computers in general. Thanks in advance.

Did you check the md5sum of the iso you downloaded ?

I would start by checking that.

Also can you post the full error message you are seeing ? Is it the full error message ?

    Kind regards
