    SOLVED Dummy output

I did a really really stupid thing

I have been struggling with my USB Sennheiser PC 36 CALL CONTROL headset for a while trying to get the recording sound in Audacity up to a decent level but without much luck.

So today I once get search for solutions when I came a cross a thread that suggested to try something in another thread and even though the thread was from 2010 I went ahead and did it. And now I am without sound

This is the thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1395089 and I copied the whole long thing into terminal and ran it.
Can somebody help me undo whatever it is the command did, and perhaps even get a decent sound recording volume?

I'll just go and bang my head into the wall for a while

    Thank you

Also I do not have a dedicated sound card. I use the sound provided with my ASUS 1155 P8H61-M PRO REV 3.0 motherboard.

    Re: Dummy output

That command tried to install 131 different packages, many of which have nothing to do with sound (data compression, fonts), many of which were allready installed on your machine (probably), many of which never have to be installed manually as they are automatically included by others and some of which are no longer available as they were specific to an older Ubuntu version (karmic koala, which is 9.10 and dead for two years now).

Can you tell us which Ubuntu version you are running?

    Re: Dummy output

That command calls aptitude, but do you have aptitude installed at all? IIRC, it's not part of default installation on recent Ubuntu releases anymore. Could you please post the output of
    Code:
    dpkg -l aptitude

    Re: Dummy output

Could you please publish the aptitude and dpkg logs using pastebin and post the links here?

    aptitude:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install pastebinit
    pastebinit /var/log/aptitude
    Then post the link.

    dpkg:
    Code:
    grep ^2013-03-27 /var/log/dpkg.log|pastebinit
    Likewise post the link.
