I'm trying to get a gobi 2000 Wireless modem card on my Dell Precision M4500 to work. I've seen a lot of talk on how to do this using older versions of Ubuntu but nothing more recent.
Things I've done:
Installed gobi-loader (most recent from apt-get)
Copied apps.mbn and amss.mbn and UQCN.mbn from a working windows 7 x64 install (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\QUALCOM\Images\Dell\1), I am using Verizon which is why I chose the 1 directory.
Did a complete shutdown and turned it back on, with no results.
Tried modifying /lib/udev/rules.d/60-gobi.rules and changed KERNEL=="ttyUSB*" to DEVNAME=="ttyUSB*" and even tried explicitly stating it should be USB0, did a full shutdown after each change with no results.
Tried modifying /lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-usb-device-blacklist.rules and adding
Code:
# Qualcomm Gobi 2000 QDL
ATTRS{idVendor}=="413c", ATTRS{idProduct}=="8185", ENV{ID_MM_DEVICE_IGNORE}="1"
which should be right based of my lsusb
Code:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 05ca:1814 Ricoh Co., Ltd HD Webcam
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 054c:05bf Sony Corp.
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 413c:8185 Dell Computer Corp. Gobi 2000 Wireless Modem (QDL mode)
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 413c:8187 Dell Computer Corp. DW375 Bluetooth Module
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0a5c:5801 Broadcom Corp. BCM5880 Secure Applications Processor with fingerprint swipe sensor
I've also done an md5sum to confirm that my .mbn files match the working windows files
I've also checked lsmod | grep qcserial
Code:
qcserial 12766 0
usb_wwan 20098 1 qcserial
usbserial 42355 2 qcserial,usb_wwan
which shows that nothing is trying to use the qcserial on boot.
On one of the (many, many, MANY) sites I read via google someone mentioned you might need to modify one of the .mbn files to match your USB information, but they did not mention which file or how to modify them.
Can anyone help me figure out why nothing is happening? Or has anyone actually gotten this thing to work on Ubuntu 12.10?
