hi all
Running 12.10 Ubuntu on a Dell Vostro v13.
Was having regular difficulties with Nautilus crashing (usr/bin error) in the 'sorry a system error has occurred' dialog box, so I went off-grid a little and "upgraded" Nautilus from the Ubuntu standard 3.4 up to the latest 3.6 figuring that they may have cleaned up a few issues in the update.
Big mistake
So now instead of regular crashes I have super-frequent crashes.
On startup, I will get the system error box probably 10 times. Every time I connect a USB, if I am lucky I get the annoying box, but probably one time out of every three, the machine just freezes and I have to long-press the power button to just shut it down.
Same with my phone (Nexus 4, had to install something that makes it recognise MTP, which may be part of the problem, however it was happening before I added that) - crashes or freezes when I connect.
Had a 4 gb folder the other day...nothing in the world would let me move/rename/take files out of that folder without Nautilus crashing/freezing.
Should I wind back Nautilus to 3.4 (or earlier even) for stability's sake? Update 3.6 in hope to a nightly build or somesuch (does that exist?) Tweak something else? Switch from Nautilus to an alternate file manager?
Open to anything and any assistance or recommendations greatly appreciated.
Matt
