Favorite Non Linux Open Source Projects?

I setup a spare router with dd-wrt as a bridge the other day and it got me wondering what other awesome open source projects are out there. I also use rockbox on a couple of mp3 players I have lying around. These 2 open source firmwares take mediocre products and turn them into awesome products. What other awesome projects like this are out there?

pfSense looks cool but could a pc acting as a router ever use less power than a router with dd-wrt? Or is it just a tradeoff between features and power?

Xfoil is a good one. I can't really think of too many others that I use at the moment.

    That is the thing.

I've used DD-WRT and it is great, but pfSense is so much more: transparent proxy, squid, VPN, complex filtering, etc.

Although most of us would love it in our own home, I'd say it is more of an enterprise solution.

    Best Regards.

Although I never owned an Amiga personally, I'm nevertheless fascinated by the AROS project. IcarOS is a cool little desktop OS if you have compatible hardware.

really need to upgrade the email feature (want to make it use mozilla's email database for settings, add pop support and not require a secure connection)
unetbootin is also nice (though i am using grub2 on my flash drive to boot iso files now)
notepad++ is definitely a favorite, at this point i should mention wine

I'm keeping an eye on Haiku OS which is based on BeOS. It's in alpha-4 right now, so hardware compatibility can be an issue, but I like it so far.
