Try Bastion I got it on Friday from Humble Bundle and compared to the Steam price for the game you get alot more for your money & Steam Key & the DRM Free versions of the game for Windows, Linux & OSX is a bargain.

I would totally recommend Team Fortress 2 run natively via Steam and Battlefield 2 with Wine.

    Re: Best games on ubuntu

I've been gaming on Linux for five years, and things have never, ever been better than they are now. While I still love my first serious Linux gaming loves (Battle for Wesnoth, Warzone 2100, Neverwinter Nights (especially)), things, starting with the first Humble Bundle, have just gotten better and better and better. I'm beating my head against my desk playing Crusader Kings 2, jumping in my chair playing Half-Life (for the first time, I might add), gritting my teeth at my ineptitude at playing Unity of Command, having a whale of a time playing The Cave, The Journey Down, Torchlight, Bastion, The Book of Unwritten Tales, and the list (All of these are available on Steam, except for Torchlight, which is in the Software Center) just goes on and on.

The best part (for me) is the upcoming (2014) Kickstarter games I've backed: Project Eternity, Wasteland 2, Planetary Annihilation, Planet Explorers, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, Forsaken Fortress, War For The Overworld. Whoo! Something for an aging oldrocker to look forward to in my dotage.

I drink my Ubuntu black, no sugar.

Cool. Sounds good to me. I think my hardware would need a boost before venturing into advanced games, but I'll keep it in mind.

Not native Linux but you can play it in Linux without problems: GTA: Vice city (Windows version) runs better in Wine than on windows.

I have found many good games, some you have to compile yourself, but are way worth it

    • Warzone2100 : http://www.wz2100.com (Compile the latest version from the site, the version in the USC is out of date)
    • Xonotic : http://www.xonotic.org (Might be in the USC, but will most likely be out of date. You can get it from the site, no need to compile, they did it for you.)
    • Minecraft : http://www.minecraft.net (Written in Java, runs anywhere. You may need to replace the LWJGL natives and Jars with the latest for it to work.)
    • Battle For Wesnoth (In the USC)

I hope you like some of these. The first two are my favorites.
