    Virtualbox on 12.04 LTS

Trying to get VB up and running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Keep running into an issue with libs. I am running off of the Virtualbox how-to on: www.ossdoc/2012/10/installing-newest-virtualbox-424-on.html. Here is what happens:

    Re: Virtualbox on 12.04 LTS

I installed 12.04.2 LTS just yesterday, followed by an update, but as a partition on Virtualbox - opposite of what you're trying to do, I know - however typing this on the virtual-12.04, I have just checked my version of 'libc6' and it's 2.15, whereas yours is 2.11 - the reason VB is not installing for you. Why the update didn't install the latest version for you I do not know.

BTW 12.04.2 is practically unusable on my VB-setup - 4-5min to boot, multiple programs crashing after it boots, and to top it all, Dash more often than not refuses to display any applications. I intended on switching from 10.04 LTS to this but after witnessing this....

    Re: Virtualbox on 12.04 LTS

    Hi J3 Remy.

It looks like there's a problem with the source files (duplicate entry).

Could you post the result of this command?
    Code:
    find /etc/apt  -name '*.list' -exec bash -c 'echo -e "\n$1\n"; cat -n "$1"' _ '{}' \;
    Regards.

First off, if you're running 12.04 precise, then purge all the lucid repos.

    Re: Virtualbox on 12.04 LTS

    Thanks.

    I'm confused.

You seem to be running 10.04. Is that correct?

Do you want to install 12.04 on a VM? Is that right?

    Regards.

DUH! My apologies, I am running 10.04! I run back and forth between my work machine (12.04) and my perso (10.04). I am trying to install VB on the 10.04 machine.

    Re: Virtualbox on 12.04 LTS

Remove your vBox install and do a search in your nautilus "filesystem" to make sure its completely removed.

    Code:
    gksudo nautilus
Then make sure you have the packages "dkms" and "build-essential" installed.

Remove lines 54 & 55 (and anywhere else precise appears) from your sources.list and replace with:
    deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian lucid contrib non-free

    then

    Code:
    wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.2
    https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

And then install the Extension Pack

No need to burn a cd. Just download the .iso of choice and install direct to guest system.
