New to networking

Hi - Looking for direction (websites, books) to learn about networking. I have been experimenting with 3 computers. My Win7 desktop (4 GB, 64bit w/Ubuntu 12.10 desktop), an old desktop (384 MB, 2 GB HD - Have external USB to add) and a laptop (1GB max, 20GB HD). So far I have installed Ubuntu server on the old desktop and I have a bootable USB drive that I have used on the laptop. All are connected to my DSL modem/router. I'm ready to go networking - just looking for good place to start from experienced users......

"Networking" is too generic. What exactly do you want to achieve?

Everything- Remote login, setting up users, web serving, storage of multi-media files
