Downgraded to 10.10 Help - where have the software sources gone?

Evening everyone. I finally gave up with 12.04 LTS. Unfortunately it wasn't for me. Ran slower than a crusty laptop on ******* xp. Seems as though the unity interface may still not be ready for prime time. Decided to give up after the last scheduled updates had some strange effect on of all things mouse performance.

Anyhoooo long story short after doing the down/upgrade I went to update all the software sources. Both sudo apt-get update and an update in the software center failed. With sources not found? Have they been removed? Is there anyway I can get access to them or are they gone for good?

    thanks

    Jeff

As far as I know, 10.10 is End of Life. I have it on my desktop, and I haven't had updates there for some months. I believe 10.04 still has some time left, but that is not all that long either.

I think your best option is to stick with 12.04, but try a different desktop environment. You might like to try Xubuntu or Lubunutu.

Xubuntu is a bit lighter than standard Ubuntu. The main thing there would be a DE that looks more like the old Gnome

Lubuntu is significantly lighter than standard Ubuntu. The GUI is similar to the old Gnome as well.

    Yeah, she's gone

For older laptops I recommend Xubuntu or Lubuntu (12.04), though Unity in 13.04 is starting to get faster, I think it'll be 14.04 before they really get Unity lean and mean.

Thanks for the replies folks ... I was afraid of that. I'll give the Xubuntu and Lubuntu options a shot.

You could use the repositories as shown here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades#Upgrade
But you would recieve no security updates and would be mostly stuck with the program versions present at End of Life
