Problem with connecting to the internet via Ethernet

I've spend a majority of my time trying to fix this issue for the past few days, and would really appreciate help on it.

I have a Atheros GbE LAN chip, and 12.10 Ubuntu installed.
I have seen quite a few other threads that solve similar issues, but I have no seen anything that has worked for me.
I'm incredibly new to linux, so that may be why a lot of the solutions aren't worked.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?
What have you tried?
How do you know it hasn't worked?
Can another computer on your network get to the internet?
