Unhappy Select CD rom Boot Type

    Hi, newbie here.

I'm trying to install a dual boot of Ubuntu on my mid 2007 MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo). I was following the instructions here

When I try to boot from the dvd on which I have burned the disk image (ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso) I get a black screen saying the following:

    Select CD-ROM Boot type:

My keyboard does not work, I can't select either 1 or 2, and I have to turn my computer off to start it again. This situation has been reported a lot on various message boards, but I havn't yet found a solution that works.

This page ( appears to indicate that perhaps I need a different ubuntu download for my laptop because it is an older Intel Mac, the link it provides is broken however.

Please could anyone suggest where I might find an appropriate Ubuntu download that will allow me to make a working Ubuntu install disk, or suggest any other possible solutions to the problem? Thanks in advance.

Note that your link above (macpro) is quite old, and now the "32" bits kernel fully use all your installed ram.

    that link works:
