Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't detect Android phone

Hey all. So in the dark-ages when I used Windows, when I would plug in my Android phone (Samsung Continuum) it would ask me if I wanted to view the files in the phone as though it were an external hard-drive and I could easily transfer files between the PC and phone.

Now using Ubuntu 11.10 it won't detect the device (as I've read elsewhere that it should) regardless of whether or not the phone is in USB debugging mode.

How do I alleviate this? Thanks!

Try changing the usb mode on your phone. Assuming you are using a recent version of android pull down the notification menu and change its USB mode to USB storage mode ( I believe that is the correct name) . Just a place to start to fix your problem. Good luck

Odd thing is that notification doesn't come up on my phone like it did when I connect it to a Windows PC

Ah, nevermind. For some reason it didn't like the 3rd party USB cable I was using so I switched to the one the phone came with and it works fine.

I've got similar issue. I'm trying to connect my HTC Wildfire S to Xubuntu 12.10 (via original usb cable) but system doesn't detect it. I've tried to change connection mode in htc but without result. Can anybody help me with this?
