    Mozilla Flash alternative Shumway

Shumway is a Flash alternative for Firefox being developed by Mozilla. I have heard some things about it but there hasn't been a lot of noise about it lately. What I found interesting is that there is a plugin for it and it works pretty well. I disabled flash in my browser and Shumway is getting the job done. I think you have to be using a Firefox version higher than 18. It's the best flash replacement I have seen so far. At least for Firefox anyway.

You can get the extension here.

I just installed it, thanks. I tried this site:

    http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/

    and it seems pretty good.

    Then there's this:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/st-louis-r...-option-for-us

which doesn't play at all. Of course that may be because of how the web site is coded - adobe acrobat or not at all sort of thing.

    Same here:

It appears Shumway has potential but I don't know what will be involved to get it recognized and functioning with big media type sites.

    been using it here

    and here

I think it only plays html5 on youtube but I'm not sure. It's hit or miss but when it works it works well.

Youtube partially works, in the future one can imagine it will work a little better though.

Just look at hrwiki's logo while you have shumway installed:

    http://hrwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

It'll be a jumbled mess. It's interactive, if that means anything to you. Half the time it's just gray.
