    RAID Hardware Compatability

    Hi,

Sorry if this has already been asked

I am looking to see if the RAID Controller I am looking at purchasing is compatible with Ubuntu, I am sure there used to be a general Hardware Compatibility List for Linux, but no matter how much I google I can't seem to find it.

I have found the Ubutnu Page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport), does not seem to have a lot of Compatible Hardware listed on it.

The controller I am looking at is (http://uk.startech.com/Cards-Adapter...ard~PCISATA4R1) and is listed on their website as Linux Compatible, but I never trust that until I can check if anyone else has used it or see it on a Hardware Compatibility List.

Also does anyone know of any Console Tools that can allow me to watch the Status etc of a Hardware Raid (I can find loads of info on the NET about Software Raids, but not much on this sort of thing with a Hardware Raid)

    Re: RAID Hardware Compatability

I've got the same card, although I've yet to try it with Ubuntu. The closest I've come to finding support for it is at the Startech site, where is lists "Linux" as a compatible OS. Kinda vague...

Not sure if I want to redo my server just to see if this card is compatible. I think I remember having to put the boot partition on a separate (non-raid drive) and then using this card/RAID array for the rest of it, but I could be mistaken. (i.e. may not work as hardware RAID exactly as expected)
