After ati driver only sound no video in videos

So after battling with scaling issues with the ati driver, I finally got it working but installing the Ubuntu-supplied fglrx driver it works. However I am still facing the issues that doesnt matter what video player I use. gnome media player, xine, vlc I still see no video and only hear sound. Can anyone suggest how I can fix this. I should mention that before installing the fglrx catalyst driver the videos worked. I am sorry if this is a repost, as I can not find any solutions anywhere online.

I have figured out that in VLC if I change the Video output to X11 I can then see the video and not just only hear sound. How do I change to default of the whole system so that my videos will play properly ?
