Can't get webcam mic to work?

Have installed Pavucontrol. Installed Cheese that works fine. Started Skype went to recording clicked on Built in Audion Anologue Stereo setting! Set "input devices" to Front Microphone no sound???
What have I done wrong?

I have tried:
Pavucontrol
Sound settings
alsamixer

Rear sound
Front sound
Line in.
Nothing...

The Mic jack is plugged into the correct jack socket.
I've got vision but no sound.

Are you absolutely sure the mic is not broken? Does it work on anthoer machine/ another install?

It does not work on either Ubuntu or Windows. I don't think it is the mic. I think I have lost a driver?

This is a dual boot on one machine, or two different machines?

If it is one machine, I strongly suggest trying your mic on a different machine, and/or a different mic on your machine. If it is two different machines, I suspect the mic has a problem.

You say that the mic does not work in Ubuntu or in Windows. This is an indication that the mic or the connector on the computer might indeed have a problem. That is why I would try the mic in another machine, and another mic on you machine. You need to be absolutely sure that the mic is not broken before you start looking for software problems.

Using another Webcam. Got sound but there is a lot of noise with it!

It turns out that you were right audiomick. They webcam was dead on other computer!
