12.10 battery not present for Acer computer

I am new to ubuntu and have just installed 12.10 on my AcerAspire 5820TG along with Win7. I have found out that despite WP7 could recognize the battery without a problem, unbuntu always gives me battery not present messages even if the laptop is solely running on the battery itself. I have searched some older threads but have been able to detect a good solution.

Here is the outcome of ~$ sudo grep . /proc/acpi/*
    [sudo] password for gwen:
    grep: /proc/acpi/button: Is a directory
grep: /proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:Device S-state Status Sysfs node
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PEGA S4 *disabled pci:0000:01:00.1
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:EHC1 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1d.0
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:EHC2 S3 *enabled pci:0000:00:1a.0
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:RP01 S4 *disabled pci:0000:00:1c.0
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled pci:0000:02:00.0
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled
    /proc/acpi/wakeup:PXSX S4 *disabled

and I have also attached the outcome of acpidump. (hope it helps)
(No, its too large to upload. but I do have it if it would help)

It might be noted that I installed ubuntu with a power cord rather than the battery, so the battery was not present upon the the time of installation. Would this have something to do with my problem?

    Thanks a lot,

Hello and welcome to the forums.

i believe bios version 1.18 fixed this issue. What bios version do you have? You can check by opening a terminal window and running the following command:
    sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
    ...(enter your password when prompted).

    Hi Toz,

Apparently I am using a Bios version of 1.15, so I think this is the problem. Thank you.
