Definitely would help. Depending on what you want, you will get a different response from the same person. There are some things that I would definitely do, and some I would surely not.

SVG graphics can produce some amazing results and very quickly , to

not sure if it fits the bill , but it's free

Take a look at inkscape , it should be in the repos

also there should converters and editors ,
look at image magic , and librsvg2-bin
some of the latter is command line but powerful, may need to install Synaptic to view exactly what is available.
