I've got a 10.04 box which I use as a storage and download server. It's tucked away in a very inaccessible place, and I use the x2go remote client to log in. I'm starting to get out of date with some of my apps. I can't get the latest because libraries are old. Rather than try and upgrade piecemeal, it might be time to upgrade. Now currently my system uses the GNOME desktop. If I just upgrade without any intervention, what will happen to my x2go connectivity ? AFAIK it doesn't support Unity. What would be the best way to upgrade and keep GNOME ? I can SSH into the box, if command line tweaks are needed - they don't scare me. I just don't know what they should be. I am VERY keen to ensure I don't lose remote access during the process.
