    Installed Xubuntuy 12.04

    Hey all,
I installed Xubuntu 12.04 on my system76 perfromance pangolin, and everything is great. Unfortunately, the SD card read doesn't work and I never checked it before I I installed Xubuntu. I downloaded the system76 drivers (the .deb package) and installed it, and the SD card still doesn't work. Any thoughts?

That is odd? I have no trouble with the SD card read on a Toshiba Satellite C655 and Ubuntu 12.04.1. Not aware of unique drivers for SD card read?

Xubuntu is a blend of Gnome 3 and Xfce. It may be a matter of mounting that SD card point with Xfce. Perhaps in /dev or /mnt?

Nope, can't find it anywhere. I have it set to display shortcut on desktop and it isn't there, it isn't in any of the regular mount points I have searched, isn't in the file system navigator or any where else I can check.

What should I be looking for in there? It is a bunch of crap. But from what I can tell it isn't there. If I do [code]ls /dev/[\code] the only /dev/sdX that shows up is my hard drive. Sounds like I got a faulty SD card reader with the computer. What a crap shoot.

Which PanP do you have? My PanP5 is running Xubuntu 12.04 and the SD card works without a hitch. One thing I'd suggest is booting from one of the Ubuntu or even the Xubuntu live CD's and seeing if it works then. If not then you may have some hardware problems though not sure what could be done about it if it's not still under warranty.

I have a PanP9. I'm pretty sure it is pure hardware. I will check though to make sure.

Still doesn't work. I'm going with hardware failure. Don't think I would buy form System76 again unless the quality of the hardware goes up, but I am still pretty happy and satisfied with my System76 PanP9.

Hardware can go out with any vendor, so honestly don't take this as a hit against S76. I hope to buy the latest and greatest PanP later this year since my laptop is going on 4 years old. It still runs like a champ, rather I need more out of it than this old system can give me since it maxes out at 4 Gigs of ram.

That is very true. Overall I just feel like the System76 laptops are of slightly lower quality than a other top manufacturers. I hear Toshiba is very good, but honestly I have not kept up with the reviews. Besides, even if you do, it is unlikely that you will find a big review of the hardware quality that will include System76, which is really too bad.
