12.04 wireless connected but no connection to network

Hi all,

I have a very weird case which i tried solving by browsing this and other forums and howtos. But i can't find anything similar.

The difference is that i know the wireless connection works on a specific wireless access point, but not on another one. But other devices connect fine to the second access point.

What's more, during the installation process it seems to work fine. I've tested a new installation and it's still not changed (even tried with KUbuntu, but it's the same).

There's not much i can think of...

Before i go travelling, i'd like to know if it's an issue with this router or something more general which might happen with older routers (probably having them in Africa)

As a temporary experiment, please try:

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

Any improvement?

There is a long-standing bug somewhere in the driver iwlwifi and, for that matter, its predecessor iwlagn.

Here is the step that makes it persistent:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

Add a single line:

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

Use leafpad, kate, vim or any text editor if you don't have gedit. Proofread, save and close gedit.

Hey, sorry to reopen an old post. I am visiting my parents for the holidays and was having this same issue. This solved it. However, I am not having these issues at home or at work. Will making these changes permanent cause any problems with connections that were previously working fine?

Not really.It will simply disallow traffic at N speeds. You may have trouble if you intend to stream Blu-Ray from a media server, or other extremely high density media, but probably not otherwise.

Delayed thank you by the way.

So, if I want to go back to n speeds I can just remove the file or can I even just comment out that line in the file so that if I want to use it again at a later time, next time I'm at their house, I can?
