If you can pull the Netgear from service, why not get a different model that does not have this bug?
If you move DHCP and Gateway to the server, you now have a single point of failure.
Perhaps get two new routers that can be configured the same. If one goes down, a non-techie can swap out the few wires and be up and running if you are not on site. Plus having a backup unit is just nice to have
Nothing is ever easy, but if it is difficult you must be doing it wrong.
