sound glitches in Amarok and Vlc but not in Rhytmbox and MPlayer

Hi everybody,

Some weeks ago sound in Amarok and Vlc started hanging every 2 or 3 seconds. But sound continued to play fine in Rhytmbox and Mplayer. Then, magically the glitching disappeared for some weeks, but now it is back.

I have no idea why Amarok glitches and Rhytmbox not. Does it have something to do with the backend? Amarak uses Xine.

I am still on ubuntu 11.04. Amarok is 2.3.2.

How can I tell Amarok and Vlc to play sound like Rhytmbox and Mplayer do? Or how can I make to glitching go away?

I have no idea where to start.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ubuntu 11.04 is no longer supported. Do you have an upgrade plan?

If you fix the problem now, it may or may not be relevant to "after the upgrade."

thank you for your reply.

No I have no upgrade plan. I am very happy with everything except for the sound problems.

But I have found an old repository and installed phonon-gstreamer backend and changed the phonon settings in Amarok. So I am back in business.

I will upgrade eventually, but I dread Unity, otherwise I would've upgraded long time ago...
