    Cool Recomend distro

I found an old laptop which presently has Windows-XP installed on it and I would like to wipe clean and install a Linux distro on it.

Which one is recommended for a box low on resources? (slow CPU, RAM, etc) and where do I get it?

    Thanks for any help

Windows XP shipped on a wide range of hardware, from sub-gigahertz machines to dual-core 3 Ghz. What are the specs of your laptop? (cpu/RAM/HDD)? How many years old is it?

You might get some good ideas from the link in my signature.

    Re: Recomend distro

How snappy is it with XP? I was in a similar situation recently, but the laptop had Vista on it. 2GB of RAM. I went with the regular Ubuntu install and it's been much improved over Vista. Of course, XP ran better than Vista, so perhaps that's not saying much... But bottom line, I'd expect the stock Ubuntu to run fairly similarly to XP. I have yet to be convinced that the variants provide that much of a performance boost...

I'd go with stock Lubuntu or Xubuntu and probably run openbox or fluxbox instead of xfce or lxde.

Thanx for all of your input. Probably go with Lubuntu and use as Internet radio.
