    update-apt-xapian-index hogging ram and CPU

Looks like an update process running in background, however otherwise i have the updates turned off.
    (see pic)
it consumed the whole ram dedicated to the OS and also a lot of CPU power just when i was testing a new plugin on joomla. i really hate these interruptions as i don't have much available time when i can do the tests.

Re: what is this porcess that is hogging ram and CPU?

Normally I don't like this kind of answer, but in this case it actually gives good results to google update-apt-xapian-index or apt-xapian-index, for example the thread

hmm okay the threads discusses that is should be removed yet it is still here and i have no idea why it is updating if i turned off updates. furthermore if this is a good update and something that needs to be done then it should run at low lever of priority not take over all system. oh well i will disable it i guess.

also i do not believe i've ever seen this in debian.

BTW, Lubuntu doesn't seem to have this problem.
