    Hello Everybody,

I have been using windows since, i've ever got my hands on a computer, i started with WIN95 untill WIN8, and now iam fed up with all of the error and stupid stuff in it, so i decided to move to ubuntu, and i cant use it by anymeans, i cannot understand how the system works, so if anybody has a tutorial website of some videos on youtube that could help a newcommer i would appreciate it, thanks all.

As a long-time Windows user, you probably assumed a bit that the way Windows does things is the only way they can be done. Linux is so incredibly different to Windows that you can safely consider yourself a "newbie".

Don't be afraid to ask specific questions here. Use Google first, though, and if you have no answer or you don't understand the answer, you can post here.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

    Re: New to Ubuntu

The best Ubuntu guide I've found is this:

    http://ubuntu-manual.org/downloads

You'll see there are different versions available. Since you're new to this I'd recommend version 12.04.1 because it has a much longer support cycle.

But if you really can't use or don't like the new Unity interface you may be more comfortable with Lubuntu or Xubuntu.

Edit: I just thought to add one. HowtoForge has a very great series that can easily be googled with "perfect desktop distroname+version", eg; googling "perfect desktop ubuntu 12.04" renders this result:

A copy of this is also installed with Ubuntu.

Do not forget that when we download Ubuntu and burn it to disk it can be used to run a live session where we can try out Ubuntu before we actually install it.

I have never regretted changing from Windows 98 to Ubuntu and that was 5 years ago.

    Regards.
