Question Get 32 or 64 bit?

I have a new system I built, not the best but way better that anything I've been using. I'm sick of Windows. I've used Linux enough to be alright to jump into a main machine with it. What I want to know is, what advantage is their on 64bit over 32bit?

    My machine is as follows:
-ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AMD 760G Motherboard
    -AMD HDX945WFGIBOX Phenom II X4 945 Quad Core Processor - 3.00GHz, 6MB Cache
    - (TWO) Kingston HyperX Red KHX16C9B1R/4 4GB Memory Module - 1600MHz, 9-9-9, DDR3, CL9, 1.65V, Unbuffered
-Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 1 GB PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card 25SGF6HX1RUV

Nothing is overclocked. All is running at stock specs. Thanks for your input.

The 32 bit version is for 32 bit CPUs, the 64 bit version is for 64 bit CPUs.
Although you could run the 32 bit version on a 64 bit CPU, you should go for the 64 bit version.

Generally speaking, 64 bit CPUs can access more RAM (especially since you have more than 4 GB), and they can perform more complex operations than a 32 bit CPU.
But you need a 64 bit operating system in order to take advantage of this.

I would definitely recommend going with x64.

    This might help your Decision...

Never had a problem with 32 bit vs 64

64bit AMD ISO. That's it. It will make better use of your hardware.

Re: Get 32 or 64 bit?

64-bit definitely because of the RAM.

There still seem to be some naysayers out there, but IMO there is very little reason to not go 64-bit multilib, meaning use 64-bit with 32-bit libraries too. There are a few plugins like flash that barely have Linux support, and when they do it seems it's 32-bit.

Re: Get 32 or 64 bit?

Thanks. What threw me for a loop was on the download page it had (recommended) on the 32bit version.

Think I'll have any driver problems? I also have a Netgear WNA1100 wireless card...

Again, install 32-bit libraries and you'll get the best of both worlds.

I run 64 bit and everything works fine.
    I also have 8gb ram.

Don't worry ... just go for 64 bit
