Please help !
If anyone could help I'm sure they would. Realise that it is now xmas day in many parts of the world and people will be in and out or absent for the next 24/48 hours.
I understand your frustration ...
I do not know Macs, but there are some threads with good & not so good results.

GRUB recognized your ext4 partition as ext2, which is strange. I reported the bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...2/+bug/1095142
However, GRUB seems to be in your PBR, so rEFIt (or rEFInd) should be able to chainload to it.
Please install rEFInd, and tell us what you observe.
After reinstalling rEFIt what should I try?
After reinstalling refit, just reboot and check if you can access the GRUB menu.
If you can't, try with Refind instead of Refit.
